Welcome to WD Class 101, here I’m gonna tell you the basic things you’ll need when designing a website and how to go about it.
Exciting right?......... Okay let’s get started
In creating a website, there are a lot of things involved and yes you’ll need little programming knowledge but that’s mostly for the complex types of websites that require that, others???? Not so much.
Things you’ll need
v PERSONAL DOMAIN NAME; If you've read my post about BLOGGING then you know why you need this and you know what it’ll cost you to get this online. Every website must have a domain name, it’s really important cause the impression it gives to potential ad publishers is that you mean Business. There are thousands of sites where you can buy a domain name and since this blog is aimed at trying to make life easier for people (Mostly Africans) given the current state of the African economy and for countries like Nigeria where things keep getting tough and cost of living increases cause of the rise in
Dollar rates and all (Though they blame the President for that).. Anyway, among the sites out there, I’d strongly recommend
cause of their low fee
v WEB HOSTING PLATFORM; Now this part is actually a bit more expensive than the above stated context. To put it simply, you’ll need a web host in order for your site to be view-able on the internet, unlike others who have the skills to host their sites themselves, some have to pay others to have it hosted. Make no mistake, you’re not being ripped off in anyway if you pay to have your site accessible to people all over the world. Platforms like Blogger and Wordpress offer free web hosting but the disadvantages about it is that it comes with certain limitations. These limitations come up mostly if you don’t have a personal domain name though. I’d recommend using sites like
to host your site
v DESIGNERS PLATFORM; By now, you’re done with the personal domain and web hosting issues and ready to begin the design of your website, since you probably have no coding skills, I’ll refer you to Drag and Drop systems that’ll make it a whole lot easier for ya. You have to understand that every design selected is an already created theme that can be tweaked to your taste, most of them are free but the premium themes are lot better and appealing to the eye (or at least to mine). Premium themes don’t cost much and there’s no monthly or annual re-subscription fee, once you've got it, you've got it. Concerning recommendation, I’d strongly suggest using
their platforms are okay. Once all that is settled all you need to do is launch the site and hermano, you’re all good to go.
v SHOWCASING; Now this last part is also as important as the others, you’ll need to get your site out there, you’re probably asking ‘Why did I pay for hosting if my site is not out there?’, well yes, you paid for the hosting to make it accessible but that doesn't mean people know about it, you’ll have to embed it into their minds and what better way to do that than using social media platforms. Social media platforms like FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTGRAM and LINKEDIN, help showcase your website to the world and if even if you don’t get the millions of viewers you want, you can still pay online ad companies to get your site out there (GROW YOURAUDIENCE).
I think at this point you’re just about done, there’s nothing else you need to do at this stage.
NOTE: BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT USING ANY CODING, THE CATEGORY OF SITES YOU CAN CREATE ARE LIMITED, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO CREATE BUSINESS WEBSITES OR NEWS WEBSITES BUT NOT SITES LIKE SHOPPING SITES.
